Woolly walking

Here at the Melken Jacobs and Churndon Flock home we are big believers in the calming benefits of being around sheep.  We spend a lot of time around our sheep and as a result they are super friendly.  Almost all our sheep have names ……and yes we know them all!! We have a couple of different breeds on our farm including our lovely black and white Jacobs and our super cuddly Greyface Dartmoors which are like teddy bears on legs!! Our sheep are naturally very inquisitive and love to interact with people. With this in mind we’re excited to be able to offer you the opportunity to walk one of our lovely halter trained sheep around our beautiful farm and along the banks of our lovely river taking in the stunning views out across to Dartmoor (weather depending).  During your walk there will be plenty of opportunities to stop and take photos with your sheep and give them a little treat whilst also learning more about them and how we look after them.  At the end of their walk our sheep love nothing more than to have a lovely brush (assuming they haven’t got too wet) allowing you to enjoy some sheepy cuddles and yet more photo opportunities!!

Your sheep experience will last 90 minutes and costs £25 each and we ask that you arrive no more than 15 minutes early.

Our sheep experiences are limited to 4 people and are suitable only for people over the age of 12. Being a working farm the terrain can be uneven. Our walks last for upto 60 minutes so you need to be fit enough to walk unaided for that length of time and up hills. Our sheep walk at a leisurely pace. Unfortunately we can’t have any bystanders. Each experience will start with a brief safety talk before your introduced to your sheep. We are a working farm hence no children under the age of 12. We also ask that you leave any dogs you may have at home as we have friendly dogs here on our farm.  We recommend walking boots or wellies as our farm can be very muddy!!

Open toed shoes / flip flops will not be allowed.

We guarantee that you will have an amazing time but the one thing we can’t guarantee is the weather and being on the edge of Dartmoor it can be very changeable. We do our walks in all weathers so please check the weather forecast and dress appropriately!!
